Steve Less is serving as the interim head coach for the Iowa Wesleyan baseball team in 2011-12.
Less replaces Brett Monaghan, the winningest coach in school history who in the past five years won 148 games, two Midwest Collegiate Conference regular season championship and three MCC Tournament titles. The Tigers also reached the NAIA National Championships Opening Round in 2011, finishing third at the Kingsport (Tenn.) Regional and finishing three games shy of advancing to the NAIA World Series.
Less was a player and coach at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, graduating in 2006 with a degree in Communication and a minor in Business Administration. As a collegiate player he was a four-year starting pitcher for Wittenberg, a two-year team captain and twice named All-North Coast Athletic Conference. He then coached at Wittenberg from 2007-08 and again in 2010, working with pitchers and outfielders and developing and implementing the team's strength and conditioning program.
Less was the pitching coach this past summer for the Grand Lake Mariners of Celina, Ohio, a member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. He also played professional baseball in the independent Frontier League for the Slippery Rock Sliders in 2007.
Less is a native of Sheffield, Ohio, and graduated from Elyria Catholic High School in 2002. He is currently working on a master's degree in sports management from Southern New Hampshire University.
