Anne Giesel returns for her fourth year coaching the Iowa Wesleyan College men's and women's track and field teams.
Last year in her third season coaching the Tigers, Giesel coached a Midwest Collegiate Conference champion and school record holder in the long jump (Ridge Hobbs). She also led the IWC women's indoor and outdoor teams to sixth-place finishes in conference.
In 2010 during her second season coaching the Tigers, Giesel coached IWC's first qualifiers for the NAIA National Track & Field Championships in four years. Wesleyan qualified sprinters for nationals in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, and the Tigers were represented by participants in four different events including a relay. IWC also featured a Midwest Collegiate Conference champion in the 100 meters (Nigel Talton).
Giesel replaced Lane Levine as head coach of both teams in 2008 and in her first season her team featured an all-conference performer in Corrie Wagner, who won the MCC pentathlon (indoor) and heptathlon (outdoor) titles. She also is the coach of the Tiger men's and women's cross country teams, which she just completed leading for her third year.
Giesel came to Iowa Wesleyan from the University of South Dakota, where she was a graduate assistant coach with the track and cross country teams for two years while completing her master's degree in Exercise Science. During her time there USD sent a number of athletes to national competition, including the women's cross country team which finished ninth at the NCAA Division II championships in 2007.
Giesel, 27, is a native of Rushville, Neb., and completed her bachelor's degree at Doane College in Crete, Neb. She was a four-year participant in both track and cross country at Doane and was a three-time qualifier for the NAIA national meet in both sports. She holds the school's indoor record in the 5,000 meters and also was an NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete and an honor student, receiving a degree from Doane in Spanish.
Giesel has remained an avid runner after her college career and has participated in a number of marathons since graduating from Doane. The former Anne Dreyer, in June 2011 she married Gabe Giesel, and the couple resides in Mount Pleasant.
