MOUNT PLEASANT - Jacob Sanchez (Sr.-Brawley, Calif.) set a new Iowa Wesleyan College single season strikeout record and the Tigers hammered Waldorf College 12-1 Sunday afternoon in a Midwest Collegiate Conference baseball game at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

IWC concluded a convincing three-game weekend sweep of the Warriors and moved back to .500 in the conference, improving to 9-9 in the MCC (16-28 overall). The Tigers extended their winning streak to five and won their home finale for the season as well as on Senior Day for 17 Wesleyan players.

Sanchez put together another excellent performance on the mound, throwing seven innings and allowing a run on six hits while striking out nine. He won his eighth game this year and now has 92 strikeouts on the season, breaking the school record of 90 set by Tom Peterson in 2006.

Wesleyan supported its starting pitcher with seven runs in the first three innings, as well as a four-run fifth inning. Drew Koeppel (Sr.-Bartonville, Ill.), Ryan Doeppel (Jr.-Arcadia, Calif.) and Michael Mendoza (Sr.-San Gabriel, Calif.) all hit home runs and the Tigers piled up 11 hits and also took advantage of five Waldorf errors.

Koeppel's two-run homer in the first got IWC on the board, and Doeppel hit a two-run blast as part of a four-run third. Mendoza added a solo shot to lead off the sixth inning for his eighth home run of the season as well as his team-leading 36th RBI.

Koeppel finished with three hits and three RBIs to lead the offense, while Doeppel also had two hits. Elliot Armstrong (Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) also finished with two hits, and drove in a pair in the fifth with a two-run double.

Waldorf (21-16 overall, 9-7 MCC) was held to seven hits in the game and was led by Lance McFeely with two hits. Marcus Ledbetter (Sr.-Mount Pleasant, Iowa) and Colton Hopwood (Sr.-Bloomfield, Iowa) followed Sanchez for IWC and combined for two scoreless innings.

Wesleyan next will face William Penn University on the road in Oskaloosa Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. for another important MCC doubleheader. Penn trails the Tigers in the MCC standings but won the teams' first meeting this season in Mount Pleasant.
