MOUNT VERNON - The weather held as the Iowa Wesleyan College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Cornell College Open on Saturday.

The Tiger teams performed well, recording 15 top ten finishes on the day. No team scores were kept at the meet where a total of nine schools participated, including IWC, host school Cornell, and Midwest Collegiate Conference members Grand View University, Mount Mercy University and Viterbo (Wis.) University.

LaStacy Freeman (So.-New London, Iowa) led the Tiger women by finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.17 seconds and finishing fifth with a time of 27.23 in the 200. Ashley Reeves (So.-Normal, Ill.) took third in the long jump with a jump of 4.56 meters (14-11 1/2). Kaysee Grogan (So.-Danville, Iowa) rounded out the top performers for the women, finishing sixth in the discus with a throw of 35.58m (116-9).

Keith Brown (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Tiger men with a first place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.76, which better his school record time last weekend at the Ashford Invitational. Last weekend Brown ran the event in 14.91, breaking the school record previously set by Dan Lott in 1984 with a time of 15.34. This weekend Brown finished just .01 off of the NAIA standard for automatic qualification to the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. Brown also took eighth in the javelin throw on Saturday with a throw of 42.04m (137-11), finishing just behind teammate Dylan Newman (Fr.-Botkins, Ohio) in the event after Newman finished seventh with a throw of 42.88m (140-8).

William Stephenson (Fr.-Burnam, Ill.) took second in the long jump with a jump of 5.93m (19-5 1/2) and also jumped to a fourth place finish at 12.35m (40-6 1/2) in the triple jump. Michael Klostermann (Fr.-Toledo, Iowa) finished seventh in the long jump with a jump of 5.45m (17-10 3/4) and took eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.45.

Duane Lee (Jr.-San Jose, Calif.) finished tenth in the 200 with a time of 23.54, while Jacob Ayers (Fr.-Hamilton, Ill.) finished seventh at 53.31 in the 400. Aaron Brown (So.-New London, Iowa) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.09m (46-2.3/4). Keith Brown, Elijah Albert (Jr.-Richmond, Calif.), Duane Lee and Raul Becerril (Fr.-Mission, Texas) also finished fourth in the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 44.95.

The Iowa Wesleyan track & field teams next will be at the Grinnell College Dick Young Invitational next Saturday in Grinnell.
