) hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a good day at the plate and give the Iowa Wesleyan College baseball team a 3-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Clarke University Wednesday at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
The Tigers also defeated the Crusaders 13-6 in the first game of the doubleheader, finishing with a doubleheader sweep of Clarke. IWC moved to 14-13 overall this year and improved to 3-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.
Arredondo was one of a number of Tigers to have big days at the plate, finishing the twinbill with five hits. He drove in the winning run in the second game as Wesleyan answered a Clarke rally in the top of the seventh, when the Crusaders broke up a no-hit bid by Brad Pollock
) and scored twice to tie the game.
Pollock held Clarke hitless for six innings before Sergio Cruz led off the seventh with a sharp single to left. Pollock then hit the next batter, and after a sacrifice and a ground out the Crusaders had a run in and a runner at second with two outs when Dustin Sandberg hit a pinch hit double to tie the game. ) came on to get pinch hitter Cody Leach to ground back to the mound to end the threat. Wesleyan then got a pinch hit double from Corey Amerson

) with one out in the bottom of the seventh off Clarke starter Brian Cross. Matt Martinez

) came on to run for Amerson, and Arrendondo followed three pitches later by lining the ball into left-center to score Martinez with the winning run.
The pitchers' duel in the second game followed an opener when IWC piled up 17 hits and scored in every inning. Todd Christensen

Christensen and Arredondo both finished with five hits each in the doubleheader, while Doeppel added four hits on the day. The Tigers outhit the Crusaders (2-15 overall, 0-5 MCC) 26-10 on the afternoon.
