MOUNT PLEASANT - Christian Arredondo (Sr.-Sun Valley, Calif.) hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a good day at the plate and give the Iowa Wesleyan College baseball team a 3-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Clarke University Wednesday at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

The Tigers also defeated the Crusaders 13-6 in the first game of the doubleheader, finishing with a doubleheader sweep of Clarke. IWC moved to 14-13 overall this year and improved to 3-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

Arredondo was one of a number of Tigers to have big days at the plate, finishing the twinbill with five hits. He drove in the winning run in the second game as Wesleyan answered a Clarke rally in the top of the seventh, when the Crusaders broke up a no-hit bid by Brad Pollock (Jr.-Payette, Idaho) and scored twice to tie the game.

Pollock held Clarke hitless for six innings before Sergio Cruz led off the seventh with a sharp single to left. Pollock then hit the next batter, and after a sacrifice and a ground out the Crusaders had a run in and a runner at second with two outs when Dustin Sandberg hit a pinch hit double to tie the game.

Keith Bullock (Jr.-Alamo, Calif.) came on to get pinch hitter Cody Leach to ground back to the mound to end the threat. Wesleyan then got a pinch hit double from Corey Amerson (Sr.-Mount Pleasant, Texas) with one out in the bottom of the seventh off Clarke starter Brian Cross. Matt Martinez (Jr.-Chula Vista, Calif.) came on to run for Amerson, and Arrendondo followed three pitches later by lining the ball into left-center to score Martinez with the winning run.

The pitchers' duel in the second game followed an opener when IWC piled up 17 hits and scored in every inning. Todd Christensen (Sr.-Redondo Beach, Calif.) had four hits, Andrew Jurgesmeyer (Sr.-Mexico, Mo.) had three hits and Ryan Doeppel (Jr.-Arcadia, Calif.) added two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run.

Arredondo, Michael Mendoza (Sr.-San Gabriel, Calif.) and Elliot Armstrong (Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) also all had two hits each, and Mendoza and Marco Prieto (Sr.-Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) both added two RBIs each. In all eight of the nine starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit for Wesleyan.

Joseph Neilson (Jr.-Bakersfield, Calif.) was the recipient of the good run support and pitched five innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out four for his second win this season. Edgar Silva (Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) and Michael Rosa (Jr.-Santiago, Dominican Republic) closed the game out with an inning each in relief.

Christensen and Arredondo both finished with five hits each in the doubleheader, while Doeppel added four hits on the day. The Tigers outhit the Crusaders (2-15 overall, 0-5 MCC) 26-10 on the afternoon.

IWC is home again this weekend when it hosts Ashford University for a three-game MCC series beginning Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
