) pitched a complete game shutout to give the Iowa Wesleyan College baseball team a 4-0 win over Graceland University in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
The Tigers rebounded from a 3-1 loss in the first game of the back-to-back, gaining a split with the win in the nightcap of a twinbill that featured a pair of pitchers' duels. IWC moved to 11-12 overall this year, while Graceland is now 8-10 on the season.
Pollock threw his first shutout for the Tigers, allowing just two hits while striking out nine and walking just two. He improved to 2-1 this season with his first complete game and shutout in an IWC uniform.
Pollock received all the run support he would need in the first inning as Wesleyan struck for three runs. IWC opened with four straight hits by Elliot Armstrong

), including infield hits by Christensen and Koeppel. Mendoza drove in a run and Christensen scored on a throwing error following Koeppel's hit, and Mendoza came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Doeppel
The Tigers scored their other run in the third inning. Mendoza hit a one-out ground-rule double into the right field corner, and Doeppel followed two batters later with a single up the middle to score Mendoza.
IWC was on the losing end of a real battle of pitching in the opener, as Jose Rosario outlasted Joseph Neilson
). Rosario baffled the Tigers in throwing a complete game four-hitter while striking out three and walking none.
Neilson was also strong, allowing five hits while striking out three and walking one in a complete game effort. The Yellowjackets scored twice in the top of the first inning, though, as Alex Pena hit a two-run single through the right side to open the scoring.
Graceland added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, while Mendoza hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the seventh for Wesleyan's only run. Corey Amerson

Mendoza led the Tigers with three hits in the doubleheader, while Armstrong and Amerson both added two hits each. Gabriel Ayala had two hits in the opener to lead Graceland.
