MOUNT PLEASANT - Despite outshooting William Penn University, Iowa Wesleyan College could not pull out a last-second win against the Statesmen and lost 93-91 Saturday afternoon at Ruble Arena.

The Tigers outshot Penn 47.1% to 46.2% but missed two chances to tie in the final seconds. The loss dropped Iowa Wesleyan to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. WPU improved to 8-9 overall and 3-2 in MCC play.

The fast paced game featured 11 lead changes but was decided on the boards. The Statesmen were able to out-rebound the Tigers 49-34 which made a big difference in the outcome of the game.

IWC finished the first half with two three-pointers in the last eight seconds, but that was still not good enough to lead by half. William Penn led 52-47 at half. The teams went back and forth in the second half, trading the lead on multiple occasions.

Jeremy Simmons (Sr.-Jackson, Tenn.) led the Tigers with 24 points and seven rebounds, making was 8-for-17 from the field. Jeff Harper (Sr.-Whiteville, Tenn.) added 21 points, making six of ten shots and pulling down a team high nine rebounds for the day. Jon Umoren (Jr.-DeKalb, Ill.) led the team with 12 assists.

Alan Douglas had 26 points for WPU with Taylor Stoutner contributing 19 points.

Other scores in the MCC Saturday included: Waldorf College 58, Mount Mercy University 56; Clarke University 66, Ashford University 64; Viterbo (Wis.) University 57, AIB College of Business 44; and Grand View University 62, St. Ambrose University 53.
