CEDAR RAPIDS - Top-seeded Mount Mercy University scored five times in the second half, including four times in the final 20 minutes to defeat Iowa Wesleyan College 6-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals Sunday.

The #8 seed Tigers hung with the MCC regular season champions much of the way but saw their season end with a 4-12 record. Mount Mercy advanced to the tourney semifinals to face 5th-seeded Viterbo (Wis.) University next Sunday.

Wesleyan played Mount Mercy to a 1-1 tie in the first half, holding the Mustangs scoreless for over 40 minutes before Sid Beck broke the ice for the hosts. The Tigers tied it up just before halftime, though, as Conor Twomey (Fr.-Kilkenny, Ireland) scored with an assist from Caio Costa (Fr.-Sao Paolo, Brazil) just 11 seconds before the break.

Mount Mercy (11-5-2 overall) took the lead back nine minutes into the second half on a goal by Josip Druzijanic, but IWC stayed within striking distance into the 73rd minute. That's when Beck scored his second goal to push the Mustangs' lead to 3-1 with 17:58 to play.

Mount Mercy would add three more goals in the next 14 minutes to blow the game open, including two more goals by Druzijanic. The Mustangs would finish with a 23-12 advantage in shots, including a 12-5 lead in shots on goal.

Troy Osborne (Sr.-Sydney, Australia) made six saves in goal for IWC in his final collegiate game. Costa had four shots and Twomey and Kris Dolinsky (So.-Fishers, Ind.) added two shots each. The match was the final one for three Wesleyan seniors, including Osborne, Cody Nathan (Newark, Calif.) and Jesus Soto (Roscoe, Ill.).
