Jacob Ayers (
Fr.-Hamilton, Ill.) and
Breanna Derynck (
So.-Clarence, Iowa) were the top respective male and female finishers for the Iowa Wesleyan College cross country teams at the Clarke University Invitational held Friday afternoon.
Ayers had the best individual of either team, finishing 27th in the eight-kilometer men's race with a time of 31:18.
Luke Ptasienski (
Jr.-Stillman Valley, Ill.) was the only other IWC men's team participant, finishing 47th with a time of 37:04.
Derynck paced the Tiger women's team with a time of 25:24 in the 5K women's race, finishing 46th individually. She was followed by
Jaimee Crosby (
Fr.-St. Louis, Mo.) in 51st with a time of 26:48.
Tiffany Cook (
Fr.-Muscatine, Iowa) and
Rebecca Wilson (
Jr.-Algonquin, Ill.) also finished for Wesleyan, with Cook coming in 54th with a time of 30:02 and Wilson finishing 55th in 30:55.
Neither the Tiger men's or women's teams fielded enough runners to finish in the team standings. Mount Mercy University won the men's team title while Viterbo (Wis.) University took the women's championship. The meet was held at the Dubuque Soccer Complex, the site of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships on Nov. 5.
The IWC cross country teams are in action again next Friday at the Grand View University Viking invitational at Ewing Park in Des Moines.
