Blake Mitchell (
So.-Loveland, Colo.) put up a good second round score to post a top 20 finish individually for the Iowa Wesleyan College men's golf team at the Clarke University Fall Invitational at Thunder Hills Country Club.
Mitchell shot a round of 73 on Monday's second and final day, following up a first round 80 and finishing with a two day score of 153 to tie for 16th, the best finish by a Tiger golfer this season. He led Wesleyan to a 12th place finish in the team standings with a team score of 665 that included a 344 on Sunday and a closing 321 on Monday.
Zach Hale (
Jr.-Indianola, Iowa) followed behind Mitchell in the standings, tying for 51st with rounds of 86 and 82 for a total of 168.
Kyle Emerson (
Sr.-Mount Pleasant, Iowa) was next, tying for 55th with a score of 87-84=171,
Trent Hoekstra (
Fr.-Cedar Rapids, Iowa) placed 62nd with scores of 92 and 82, and
Clint Phelps (
Jr.-Quincy, Ill.) was 64th with rounds of 91 and 90.
St. Ambrose University won the team title with a two-day score of 584, 23 shots ahead of Clarke, the host school. Josh Udelhofen of Clarke won medalist honors, finishing four-under par with a total of 138, including a tourney-best round of 66 on Sunday.
IWC will next compete in the Ronnie Eastman Invitational hosted by Viterbo (Wis.) University Oct. 2-3 at the La Crosse Country Club in Onalaska, Wis. Play begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2.
