MOUNT PLEASANT - Brittney Moss (Sr.-Genoa, Ill.) and Fanny Koloko-Green (Sr.-Ohlone, Calif.) both tied school single-game records and the Iowa Wesleyan College women's soccer team routed Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University 8-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at East Lake Park.
Moss scored three goals and Koloko-Green tallied three assists, both setting career highs and also tying school marks with several other players. The Tigers improved to 4-2 overall on the season heading into their Midwest Collegiate Conference opener Saturday against St. Ambrose University.
Wesleyan jumped on the Hornets (0-4-1 overall) for six goals in the first half, including three goals in a span of 3:39 to blow the match open in the first 20 minutes. Five different players scored the first five goals before Moss added her second goal on a penalty kick in the 44th minute.
Erin Lucido (Fr.-St. Louis, Mo.) opened the scoring with an assist from Koloko-Green just 8:45 into the match. Koloko-Green, Moss and Jacki Isham (Sr.-Stillman Valley, Ill.) then all scored between 15:43 and 19:22, with Koloko-Green, Lucido and Kelsey Centner (Sr.-Casa Grande, Ariz.) all adding assists.
Ashley Kendrick (Fr.-Jonesboro, Ill.) added her first collegiate goal in the 41st minute with Moss getting an assist, and Moss took the penalty kick and converted it just before halftime for a 6-0 lead. The Tigers outshot Harris-Stowe 19-0 in the first half, with starting goalkeeper Cara Arnold (Sr.-Davis Junction, Ill.) not having to make a save.
IWC added two more goals early in the second half. Moss completed the hat trick just 3:38 into the second half, punching the ball in with an assist from Jillian Sulcer (Sr.-Mechanicsburg, Ill.). Lucido then scored her second goal of the match in the 64th minute, with Koloko-Green collecting her third assist of the match.
Moss's three goals tied a school mark that she now shares with nine other players, with the last IWC player to score three goals in a match being Koloko-Green on Sept. 5, 2009, against St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College. Koloko-Green's three assists also tie a Wesleyan record set previously by five others. The last player to record three assists in a match was Deandra Franzisi, also in 2009 against St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Kaytlyn Owens (Fr.-Lake in the Hills, Ill.) played in goal in the second half and made two saves. Wesleyan finished with a 35-3 advantage in shots, including a 21-2 bulge in shots on goal. AmyLynne Brickey made 13 saves in goal for the Hornets.
The Tigers will kick off a women's/men's doubleheader against St. Ambrose on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The women's match will be played in recognition of Teen Suicide Awareness, and there will be a silent auction including a number of items with proceeds going to the Women's Crisis Center in Mount Pleasant.
