PELLA - The Iowa Wesleyan College men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons Saturday at the Central College Dutch Invitational held on Central's campus in Pella.

The Tigers sent four women and two men to Central to compete and did not compete for the team titles. Grinnell College edged out Iowa Central Community College and Central for the women's title, while Iowa Central won the men's championship by finishing well ahead of nearest contenders Central and Simpson College.

The IWC women's team was led by freshman Breanna Derynck (Clarence, Iowa), who placed 82nd with a time of 23 minutes, 57 seconds. Kati Krzystofiak (Jr.-Mount Pleasant, Iowa) placed 101st with a time of 27:35, while Kellie Wolfe (Sr.-West Point, Iowa) and Rebecca Wilson (So.-Algonquin, Ill.) were close behind with times of 28:41 and 29:12, respectively.

A pair finished for Wesleyan in the men's race. Oscar Quintanilla (Fr.-St. Paul, Minn.) placed in 135th place with a time of 28:08, while C.J. Earnest (So.-Wapello, Iowa) was one place behind with a time of 28:42.

IWC will next travel to the Les Duke Invitational on Saturday at Oakland Acres Golf Club in Grinnell, hosted by Grinnell College. The women's race will go off at 10 a.m., with the men's race scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m.
